Compare heating quotes before you pick an engineer

A new combi, a dripping valve and a cylinder with no hot water need different kinds of visit. Compare-Boilers.co.uk lets homeowners and landlords anywhere in the UK describe a boiler or radiator job once and hear back from up to four independent local heating engineers, so you can compare the proposed work and price.

Wall-mounted combi boiler and panel radiator in a British kitchen

Matching depends on the job, the postcode and which engineers are available. You may get fewer than four replies. The matching service is free and you do not have to accept a quote. Companies joining the network are asked for relevant insurance details and references; check their current documents before booking.

How it works

  1. Describe the job. Say what the boiler, radiator or cylinder is doing, add the boiler make if you can read it, and give the postcode.
  2. Hear from engineers. Businesses covering your area may ask for photos or a visit before giving a firm price.
  3. Compare the quotes line by line. Check the parts, labour, flushing, controls, guarantee and VAT before you choose.

The heating jobs we cover

Combi Boiler Replacement

New combis fitted in place of old combi, system or regular boilers. Output, flue position, gas pipe size and mains flow all shape the price.

Boiler Hot Water Repair

Boilers that heat the radiators but leave the taps cold. Diverter valves, flow sensors, scaled heat exchangers and cylinder zone valves are the usual causes.

Leaking Radiator Repair

Drips from valve spindles, unions, bleed screws and pipe joints, and corroded radiators with pinhole leaks that need replacing.

Radiator Valve Replacement

Seized, spinning or leaking wheelhead and lockshield valves changed, with the system drained or the pipes frozen, then refilled and balanced.

Thermostatic Radiator Valves

TRVs fitted where there are none, stuck TRVs replaced and smart TRV heads added, with the boiler bypass checked.

Immersion Heater Replacement

Burnt-out elements and faulty thermostats replaced in vented and unvented cylinders. The replacement must match the cylinder manufacturer’s specification, including its safety cut-out.

What makes heating quotes hard to compare

The total alone does not tell you what is included. A combi quote might include a power flush, a magnetic filter, smart controls and a ten-year warranty, or it might include none of them. A radiator valve quote might cover balancing the whole house, or just fitting two valves. Ask each engineer to list what is in the price, and compare the lists rather than the totals.

  • Ask for the boiler, valve or element make and model by name.
  • Check whether draining, refilling, inhibitor and bleeding are included.
  • Confirm call-out or diagnostic fees before any visit.
  • Ask how long the guarantee runs on parts and on labour.
  • Check VAT is shown and whether disposal of old parts is included.

The free quotes page shows guide price ranges for all six services.

Gas work needs a Gas Safe engineer

Anyone who fits, repairs or services a gas boiler for money must be on the Gas Safe Register. The engineer’s photo ID card lists, on the back, the appliance and fuel categories they are qualified for. Radiator and immersion jobs do not always need Gas Safe registration, but immersion work does need electrical competence, and unvented cylinders need specific training.

Compare-Boilers.co.uk introduces your enquiry. We do not employ the engineers or do the work, and the business you pick agrees the price, contract and payment with you directly.

If you smell gas

This is a quotes service, not an emergency line. If you smell gas in Great Britain, leave the property, do not use switches or flames, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. In Northern Ireland call 0800 002 001; for LPG contact your supplier. For a radiator leak, turn the heating off and close the radiator valves only if you can do so safely, then contact a plumber directly. Closing the mains stopcock does not necessarily stop water already in a heating circuit.

Keep the Gas Safe guide to gas safety handy for emergency advice.

Start with what you can see

“Radiators are hot but the taps are cold” or “the valve spins and the radiator stays on” gives an engineer plenty to work with. When you are ready, fill in the enquiry form with that and your postcode.
